Billy Fields sends the following information:
Nashville Scholars of the Three Pipe Problem will gather
Saturday, July 19, Noon at the Stahl's Peckerwood Estate on majestic Old Hickory Lake. The experts advise that our temperatures
will hover in the high 80s so the typical cool breeze off the serene water as we lounge under the tall trees will keep
us comfortable, relaxed and conversant!
Our menu will be simple as our Chaplain and Chief Cook,
Mr. Stahl, will provide incredible sausages while we shall bring side dishes appropriate for the Queen's picnic basket. Please
reply to all to allow our assemblage insight into what you plan to prepare for our epicurean pleasures!
Since our talk will be about Victorian Pubs, I shall
bring some British Beer (and possible some British near-beer) to help you envision and feel the atmosphere of the pub. Of
course, too much of the ale may make the vision blurry, but we trust restraint (and limited supplies) will keep all of us
grounded to the shore.
So prepare your Mash, your Mushy Peas, your Eve's Pudding
or your Spotted Dick to share with your fellow Scholars as we venture into the wild for our annual outdoor excursion!
Taking I-40 east toward Knoxville, exit at 221A (Old Hickory, Hermitage,
Percy Priest Lake). It will veer left over I-40. [If you take the canonical Exit 221B, you’ll come to a signal
light. Turn left. It involves much the same process except for adding three extra stop lights.]
There will be three quick traffic lights. At the third and last one in sight, take a right on Andrew Jackson Parkway at the
BF gas station and follow it almost seven miles to the Old Hickory Lake. At the second last light Andrew Jackson will change
names to Saundersville Road, which will curve right then left, then right, then left and take you down a longish hill to the
water. Immediately cross the bridge, take a right on Needmore Road. The third driveway
on the right will be a long tree-lined drive. Our name STAHL will be on a blue-gray plastic trash can across from three mail
boxes, one of which is ours, 1759 Needmore Road. At the end of the gravel driveway you’ll see our home, Altamont. Park
anywhere on the Ragged Shaw and Grimpen Mire.
