THE NASHVILLE SCHOLARS of the THREE PIPE PROBLEM
~ and our WelcomeHolmes Friends Worldwide ~

In November of 1999, the Nashville Scholars began their on-line discussion group called WelcomeHolmes. First located at www.onelist.com, we moved to eGroups.com which was then bought out by www.yahoo.com.

So now we are officially WelcomeHolmes@yahoogroups.com and currently have about 250 members, with a sizeable number of those living outside the USA. Canada has the largest membership, and enriches our group in lots of ways. Some of the Canadians are hightlighte below.

Friends of the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection
at the Toronto Public Library
Fifth Floor, Tornoto Public Library: ACD Room
You can visit the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection here.
The cosy, comfortable room is seen in the picture here. WelcomeHolmes member Marilyn Penner is a reference librarian for the collection. She reports the "strong presence of Sir Arthur in the room often."

In October of 2001, the Toronto Bootmakers held a most wonderful event called Footprints of the Hound.
Their web site is still available here. WelcomeHolmes member Doug Wrigglesworth was the organizing contact behind the event. Nashville Scholars Davice Sharpe and Bill Mason attended the event. Their story is recorded in the most recent issue of our newsletter, Plugs and Dottles, January 2002.

the Light of my Life!Charles Prepolec, holding the lantern, does all kinds of great Sherlockian projects. He is an artist, and sends out great Sherlockian Christmas cards. He writes reviews for Sherlockian magazines such as Scarlet Street.

He maintains a wonderful Sherlockian web site called The Singular Society of the Baker Street Dozen. Visit the web site to get in on all the adventures Mr. Prepolec is experiencing!

Singular Society

Chris Roden, editor / author / publisher / DADChristopher and Barbara Roden, have found the idyllic Sherlockian way to live: in Ashcroft, British Columbia, surrounded by the beauty of nature, they publish wonderful Sherlockian books by old and new authors, and they manage three literary societies and their related web sites! And they are raising their son to enjoy the unhurried life in rural Canada.
Barbara Roden, author / publisher / scholar / MOMI like to call them Sherlockiana's most attractive couple! I've always been fascinated by the Rodens, and early on in our club's web history, I did an interview with them which I invite you to see. They are the creative spark and energy behind Ash-Tree and Calabash Presses, The Ghost-Story Society, and the Arthur Conan Doyle Society!. Impressive work; impressive people!

In his own words, Christopher relates some of his Sherlockian publishing history in this comment taken from a post to WelcomeHolmes:

With a publisher's hat on, I've commissioned and produced:
1. Pastiches
2. Parodies
3. A book of quizzes
4. A collection of articles from a major Sherlockian Journal
5. A leading study of Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes
6. A play script
7. Collections of essays on specific cases
8. A guide to Holmes's London
9. A guide produced for a major Sherlock Holmes TV series
10.Steve Clarkson's Canonical Compendium
11.Canonical studies by John Hall
12.Scholarly studies of Doyle's non-Sherlockian writings
