We
read and collect the stories...we write parodies and new stories...we
watch movies and television series of the stories, and discuss all aspects
of Sherlock Holmes, trying to decipher the oddities we find in the texts.
We carry on a tradition dating from the late 1800s, when Doyle first
published his stories in the Stand Magazine, London.
The Vincent Starrett poem, 221B, succinctly captures the essence of what it means to be Sherlockian. You'll find us listed in the Who's Who of Sherlockian Societies and sanctioned in the USA by the Baker Street Irregulars, the first American Holmes club, begun in 1934 by Christopher Morley. Each year we celebrate our own founding in 1979, and several of us travel to New York City to participate in the celebration of the birth of Sherlock Holmes in 1854.
